NB Emergency Responders To Hold Brunswick Alpha 2018

Emergency responders from across the province will take part in a practice exercise tomorrow exercise that will test their new joint emergency measures plan.

It’s called Brunswick Alpha 2018, and emergency responders in Greater Moncton will go through the motions on what needs to be done in the case of an emergency situation.

Moncton Fire Chief Eric Arseneault says this is the first time this is being done, but the public isn’t expected to see very much because it is more of a tabletop exercise.

“It is something that is going to happen in the respective emergency operations centre, but we are not necessarily going to take the exercise out into the field. We are not going to simulate a crash or some other tragic events where you would see emergency responders. Since this is the first one, it is important that the municipal emergency operations teams get together and practice their plan in a very controlled and restricted setting,” Arseneault says.

Arseneault says this will give them an opportunity to test part of their plan.

“We’re quite excited about participating in that and testing part of our plan to see if we have the proper capabilities to mobilize, set up our emergency operations centre and make the flow of communication happen as it should.”
