Premier Brian Gallant is attempting to clear up confusion surrounding the painting of rainbow crosswalks in New Brunswick.
Gallant maintains a letter was sent in error to municipalities asking them to stop painting them until a federal study was complete.
He says it’s an important symbol to show inclusiveness and celebrate diversity.
“It’s also a way to ensure that we are recognizing that a lot of progress has been done when it comes to ensuring an inclusive society but that there is still lots of work to be done,” he says.
Although the rainbow crosswalk issue appears to be cleared up now, the City of Moncton says it intends to wait for the new letter from the province and study it before making any further decisions.
