Greater Moncton SPCA Gets Provincial Support For New Shelter

The Gallant government has announced a $450,000 investment toward a new animal shelter for the Greater Moncton SPCA.

Construction of the $5.8 million building is set to begin next spring which will replace the current aging and inadequate facility.

SPCA executive director Dave Rogers says their new home will be larger and healthier for both animals and staff.

“It will be about a quarter of a kilometre from where we are now and it will be in the (Caledonia) industrial park. It will be a totally new building about twice the floor space that we have now but housing approximately the same number of animals,” he notes.

Rogers says the new building will also have an air exchange system which will mean less odour, humidity and germs.

With provincial dollars and other funding commitments, Rogers says about $2 million has been raised so far and a soon-to-be-launched capital campaign will aim for the rest.
