Volunteer Buddies Needed For Field Of Dreams Program

A new season for Field of Dreams baseball is about to get underway, but a few volunteers buddies are needed first.

The Field of Dreams is a baseball program for children with mental or physical disabilities.

Buddy Coordinator Shelley Sherwood Hopper says Each athlete is paired with a buddy, “You put one buddy with one athlete. That is for safety reasons and just to give the kids a chance to get to know their buddies and they look forward to seeing them every week.”

More volunteers are needed this year, due to the growth of the program,”Last year, I think we had 54 athletes in the program, so we had to split it up to two times. The early session was 6 to 7pm for ages 6 to 8 and 7 to 8pm for the older kids,” Sherwood-Hopper says.

A meeting will be held tonight at 7 o’clock for those interested in volunteering this season, at the Trinity Superstore in their Community Room (on 2nd level)

“You don’t need any baseball experience. All you need to do, is show up, be reliable and be ready to have some fun.”
