Moncton Centre Liberal Candidate Says Conflict Was Inevitable

It’s not exactly ideal when eight board members of the Moncton Centre Liberal Riding Association resign just months before an election according to the only candidate seeking the party’s nomination.

Moncton City Councillor Robert McKee says the former riding president spoke out in support of current MLA Chris Collins who now sits as an independent.

“You know the party constitution talks about the association promoting the election of Liberal candidates,” he notes.

Given that situation, McKee says the party was facing a conflict and he adds they tried to smooth things over with the board before the resignations were handed in.

Collins recently announced he was not re-offering as a Liberal in Moncton Centre this fall amid allegations of harassment against him and he intends to sue the premier for libel and slander.

With a long-term goal of entering provincial politics, McKee says he considered the possibility that Collins could run as an independent in Moncton Centre in the September election but he didn’t let that deter him.
