Provincial Archives Helping To Recover Flood-Damaged Documents

As residents clean up from this spring’s flooding, some may discover damaged heritage photos or documents.

The Provincial Archives in Fredericton is stepping in to help try and recover those items.

Allen Doiron says it’s important to dry these documents quickly to prevent them from moulding or fusing together.

“We can provide the guidance and information in what to do right away,” says Doiron, “or bring the documents over here and see what we can do to help salvage those documents.”

Most repairs will be done for free but larger projects will be quoted on a case-by-case basis.

“If we can’t provide the appropriate help for certain types of documents,” says Doiron, “we will definitely guide them in the right direction to some other organization to try and see what they can do.”

You can contact the Provincial Archives online by clicking here or you can call them at (506) 453-2122.

The New Brunswick Museum has also published a guide, which you can find by clicking here, that provides advice on how to handle objects submerged in flood water.
