No Burning Across New Brunswick

The focus has been on flooding in New Brunswick recently but with little precipitation in the last week, the entire province has been under a burn ban.

Wildfire prevention officer Roger Collet says spring is a dangerous time of year for fires.

“So the grass is just starting to green up now. The leaves are just starting to poke out. Very little humidity is in the air. And we really haven’t had that much rain in the last week. So really, things dry up quickly in the open areas especially,” he notes.

No burning is allowed and that includes campfires, burning brush and even fires in backyard pits.

Collet says about 90 fires have been recorded since the season began in mid-April which is slightly below the 10-year average for this time of year.
