NB EMO Advises People To Not Eat Any Fiddleheads Harvested From The Flood Zone

They may taste great with salt, butter and vinegar but it’s best you skip them this year according to the provincial EMO.

They are talking about fiddleheads and they advising you do not harvest them or purchase any from areas affected by this flooding which is south of the Mactaquac Dam along the Saint John River.

The flood waters are contaminated with everything from dead animals, raw sewage, fuel and other industrial contaminants.

Although boiling your fiddleheads will kill any microbial contamination, it will not get rid of the chemicals.

You should not attempt to have them canned, preserved or dehydrated for consumption at a later date either.
