TCH Closure Means Delays For Truckers And Customers

Trucking companies are making adjustments given the closure of the Trans Canada Highway between Moncton and Fredericton due to flooding.

Jean-Marc Picard, executive director of the Atlantic Provinces Trucking Association, says facing delays is really nothing new for carriers.

“You know it’s like a major storm which lasts for a couple of days. They need to adjust. They need to make some changes to their operation and sometimes that costs money. But when it comes to safety, there’s no pricetag attached to it,” he says.

The lengthy detour via Saint John adds about an hour in travel time.

Picard says while customers will face delays, he doubts any shelves in the region will go empty.
