After three years of planning, the YMCA of Greater Moncton’s $15 million north end community centre is finally getting off the ground but funding is still being sought from higher levels of government.
CEO Zane Korytko says $8 million is being sought from the federal and provincial governments and the Y is launching a $3 million capital campaign later this year.
“Right now we are working on the behind the scenes part of the campaign of getting our cabinet together and getting people who are interested in helping us out together,” he says.
The Y has been working in collaboration with the City of Moncton and the North Moncton Citizens’ Action Group on the new community centre.
The City has committed $4 million toward the centre plus $2 million to extend Twin Oaks Drive where it will be built.
