Two recordings of Devin Morningstar are the focus today in Marissa Shephard’s first degree murder and arson trial.
The first recording is a more than hour long conversation between an undercover RCMP officer and Morningstar in his cell in which he claims he was framed for murder.
When asked about ‘the others’, Morningstar says he doesn’t know where they are, admitting ‘they just took off.’ Response then trails into mumbling, words can be heard including ’20 years in prison. I’m f***ing 18.’

In it, Morningstar says he didn’t kill Baylee Wylie, but admits to stabbing him three times in the neck under what he believed were death threats from Shephard, and Tyler Noel.
Morningstar also detailed the numerous drugs he’d taken, including cocaine, crack, and opiates.
Morningstar says ‘my blood’s all over the murder scene.’ Officer agrees that’s not good. Morningstar ’20 f***ing years, man.’ Officer asks how he got tangled up in that. Morningstar ‘I was just f***ed up, man.’ Sighing heard after that.

The second recording is an official police statement taken at the Shediac detainment centre five days after the murder.
So far today, in that video, Morningstar is recounting events leading up to the date of the murder, including an argument between Noel and himself over who would get to have sex with Shephard.
Morningstar says Tyler ended up sleeping on the couch, adding Noel and Baylee Wylie slept together that night. Morningstar says they did a lot of crack, as well as took some clonazepam (, and hydromorphone (opiate).
