NDP Promises Free Tuition For Community College Students If Elected

The provincial NDP is promising if elected to provide free tuition to New Brunswickers going to community college and to cut tuition for undergrads going to publicly-funded universities by 25-percent.

Leader Jennifer McKenzie says the financial burden post-secondary students carry is a heavy one. McKenzie calls this a very progressive move and points to countries that do it including Sweden.

“Funding for student loans has actually gone down since 2010, so it’s just a question of priorities and making sure that we focus where it matters,” says McKenzie, “we at the NDP believe that we need to invest in our youth to make sure that they stay in the province.”

McKenzie says they would also eliminate the interest on the student loans as long as they stay in New Brunswick.
