Heartbreaking and devastating is how Saint John-Rothesay MP Wayne Long describes Friday’s bus crash involving a junior hockey team in Saskatchewan.
Fifteen people died and 14 others were hurt when a bus carrying members of the Humboldt Broncos collided with a transport truck.
Long was president of the Saint John Sea Dogs from its inception in 2005 until being elected MP in 2015.
“There’s been many nights that I’ve travelled with the team … that have been challenging conditions,” says Long. “We are always, always so careful with our kids, with our treasures.”
Our thoughts are with the @HumboldtBroncos and their families this evening.

Long says the Sea Dogs travel on the bus every week for much of the year, so the crash hits close to home for him.
“Anything that any [hockey] organization across Canada can do for this team, you know it will happen,” he says. “The hockey community is a small community, it’s a tight community, and it’s a very, very close community and we all stand together.”
RCMP say it will take “some time” to try and piece together what happened, calling it a “very involved investigation” with a large amount of evidence, information, and the number of victims.
