Youth Mental Health Clinic Opening In Moncton’s Downtown

The Atlantic Wellness Community Centre is launching a mental health walk in clinic for youth between the ages of 12 and 21.

Executive Director Andrew LeBlanc says this idea was born out of efforts to reduce their waitlist, which is currently in the low 40s.

“So this would mean they’d be able to come in, call about their appointment, and get the service that day and maybe that’s all they need,” says LeBlanc. “And if they do need something more then we’re able to redirect them, they could go on the waitlist after that, or they could access many other services that we offer, or that are offered within the community as well.”

LeBlanc says the clinic will be open Monday nights from 4 until 8 starting April 16th, however, the phones will be ‘open’ starting at 3, so people can begin calling then for appointments.

He was careful to stress this clinic should not be used for emergencies or crises, but is there to be a preventative service able to help youth who may need it.
