Moncton Woman Hopes Open Birth Records Will Help Locate Daughter

A Moncton woman is hoping open birth records related to adoptions, will help her to find her daughter.

Wanda Burgoyne was 22 years old, when she gave up her daughter for adoption in Saint John, but she has always hoped that someday they would be reunited, “That would be my lifelong dream. I would just tell her I loved her and missed her and am just so happy to meet her.”

Her daughter was named Christine Elizabeth at birth, and she now is called Emily. Wanda has no regrets giving her up for adoption, “I have no feelings of guilt, I couldn’t give her the best life at the time.”

She doesn’t know where her daughter is now, but she would be the same age as Wanda was when she gave her up.

“My husband would also love to meet her, and my son who is an only child, would love to have a sibling. He has always known about her.”

Applications for access to birth records relating to adoption, opened April 1 in New Brunswick for adult adoptees, birth parents, adult children of a deceased adult adoptee, and adult children of a deceased birth parent whose child was placed for adoption.
