Six business groups including the Greater Moncton Chamber of Commerce are hoping to frame the debate of the upcoming provincial election campaign.
The coalition believes the province needs to get its fiscal house in order and thinks some key economic issues have not been properly addressed.
CEO John Wishart says the coalition is being apolitical and not pointing fingers at any party or any leader.
“It has been a succession of governments that have not really adequately addressed these five issues (private sector driven economy, responsible resource management, export-ready companies, labour force development and responsible fiscal management). So six months out from the election, let’s put it on the table and see what the response is,” he says.
Wishart adds this is actually an idea borrowed from Manitoba noting how business groups there formed a coalition ahead of a provincial election which proved to be an effective strategy.
