Marijuana Producer Not Worried About Recreational Market Delay

A delay in the legalization of the recreational cannabis market in Canada may actually be a good thing for marijuana producers such as Organigram.

CEO Greg Engel says the company has been studying areas which have already opened up the market for recreational use.

“That is one of the key learnings we have seen from U.S. states when those programs have launched is that the supply has outstripped the demand very quickly. So having a couple months of delays wouldn’t be a bad thing,” he notes.

Engel says a legalization delay allows them to build up an inventory of product so an adequate supply is available for the retail market.

Organigram already has supply agreements in place with New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island and is also reaching out to other provinces too.
