Congestion Expected As Work Continues On Route 15/Harrisville Boulevard Interchange

Work continues to widen the Route 15 underpass to four lanes.

Motorists are going to want to take note of the next step, starting on April 1st.

The Department of Transportation and Infrastructure says there will be significant congestion and delays…as they close off ramps at Harrisville Boulevard.

If possible, motorists are encouraged to avoid this area by finding an alternate route, carpool, take public transit or work remotely.

In 2018, work will also include the construction of tear-drop shaped roundabouts at both ramp terminals to create what is commonly referred to as a “dogbone” interchange.

During construction, traffic on the Harrisville Boulevard structure will be reduced to one lane in each direction, and the following interchange movements will be closed to all traffic:

  • Westbound off-ramp from Route 15 (left and right turns)
  • Eastbound off-ramp from Route 15 (left turns only)
  • Northbound left turn from Harrisville Boulevard on to Route 15 on-ramp (westbound)
  • Southbound left turn from Harrisville Boulevard on to Route 15 on-ramp (eastbound)

In addition, the right turn movement from the Route 15 eastbound off-ramp (toward Dieppe) is expected to be closed for a period of time midway through construction.

At some point during construction, it will also be necessary to close the Harrisville Boulevard structure to all traffic to allow for curing of the concrete deck. These closures will be scheduled to occur on two separate weekends. The Department of Transportation and Infrastructure will provide advanced notice of these closures once exact dates are confirmed.
