Provincial Governments Must Work ‘Shoulder To Shoulder With Communities’: NB Green Party Leader

There’s never been a better time to be a ‘Green’ – that was one of the primary messages delivered at a public meeting hosted by the provincial Green Party in Moncton this weekend.

Leader David Coon says with six months to the provincial election, they already have almost half their candidates lined up which is better than they had in 2014.

“Excellent candidates, candidates who are bringin the kind of vision that I think New Brunswickers are looking for, and that’s been sorely missing,” says Coon. “And truly believe as I do in the need for governments to actually meet people’s basic needs.”

Coon went on to say his question is always “Where’s the money going?”

“It’s not going into looking after our roads, it’s not going into fixing the problems that are in our healthcare system,” says Coon. “My goal is to ensure that we elect a strong caucus of Greens for the next legislative assembly to help the people of this province take back the legislature.”

He adds one thing that helps the Greens stand out, is their belief in community based services.

“Instead of dictating to communities and people what they should be doing,” says Coon. “Provincial government’s role, from our perspective as Greens is to work shoulder to shoulder with communities to help them meet their needs and pursue their aspirations.”

An example of their community based programs and services is a ‘community based non profit nursing homes’, which is a contrast from the current Liberal government which he says is favouring corporate ‘for profit’ nursing homes.

Coon was in Moncton for a public meeting held at 449 St. George Street, where he and seven other candidates and nominees for the Green Party spoke with an enthusiastic crowd of supporters.
