Work continues to establish a Canadian Disaster Animal Response Team in Atlantic Canada.
They will be there in times of need, to assist your pets and other animals in incidents including floods, fires and other disasters..
But National Vice President Ron McConnell says they are in need of pet supply donations, “Pet crates, aquariums, because we will rescue anything, bowls, leashes, blankets, collars, horse halters or other livestock equipment. Anything that is animal related, because we would like to have a stockpile situated in a couple of places around the Maritimes so that it is easy to get to.”
CDART has assisted thousands of animals in Western Canada, during fires and floods.
“We haven’t had to take action here in the Maritimes, but heaven knows we are not immune from disasters. Whether it be an ice storm in Northern New Brunswick, or fires in New Brunswick, or a Hurricane coming across Nova Scotia and PEI. We know it is only a matter of time before we will have to respond.”
They’ll hold an information session on Saturday, March 17th in Charlottetown, PEI, to talk more about their group and how to prepare yourselves in the case of an emergency.
