Premier Gallant Reacts To Stats Canada Poor Jobless Figures From January

Stats Canada says January was a bumpy ride for the whole country when it comes to the unemployment rate.

The nation shed 88,000 jobs last month and that put the jobless rate at 5.9 percent.

It wasn’t any better in New Brunswick with a decrease of 5,800 jobs and that lead to a 1.3 increase in the unemployment rate which now stands at 9.1 percent.

“But the numbers speak for themselves where we had growth of the third-fastest rate of the provinces in 2015, more growth in 16, more growth in 17 and more projected growth in 18.” says Premier Gallant.

“This reminds us that we have to consistently work on economic growth and create jobs in this province”. says Gallant
