Some School Closures And Bus Delays Due To Storm

An overnight storm in the region didn’t pack too much of a punch overnight….

Conditions closed schools for Anglophone East in the Tantramar region, and delayed buses by one hour for the remaining school.

Francophone South schools in Fredericton, Baie Saint Anne, Miramichi, Oromocto, Richibucto, Saint Louis de Kent and Rogersville were closed, but buses were also delayed for one hour to the remaining schools…

Schools in Miramichi and Rexton in the Anglophone North district were also closed.

As to what the storm brought to our region. Environment Canada says we received around 15 centimetres of snow and freezing rain.

“It wasn’t a very intense storm. It was also fast moving. It came and went through the overnight hours,” Meteorologist Darin Borgel says.

Roads are still slick this morning, because of the ice underneath the snow. Motorists were advised to slow down.

As for what the conditions will be for the remainder of the day, “Temperatures will be falling today. Looking at around minus 5 for today, and then falling to around minus 15 tonight,” Borgel says.

We’re expected to see more snow this weekend. Borgel says, “Looking at a system coming in on Saturday that could prolong until Sunday. It is going to stick around, but not an intense system, and there shouldn’t be any win with it, but it is going to stall right across Southern New Brunswick and Nova Scotia with some rain to the south and snow to the north, with possible freezing rain along the boundary. Right now, the boundary is not well defined. It could be anywhere from Central New Brunswick to Northern Nova Scotia. We’re watching that and depending on where that goes, we could see a fair bit of rain or snow or freezing rain.”
