More Doulas Wanted

The demand for doulas is growing in New Brunswick.

Elm City Doulas is expanding its training courses to Moncton, to allow for more women to be trained..

Managing Director Melissa Arbeau says doula is another name for a birth coach, “A doula can go into any birthing location as long as a registered doctor or midwife is attending. We don’t do unassisted birth because of liability reasons. We don’t actually provide any a medical services. It isn’t someone who is just a friend or family member. This is someone who has been trained in how birth works and
can help a person navigate any situation.”

Arbeau says women are learning more about the options they have in the delivery of their child, and they are looking to make their birthing experience more unique.
