City Clarifies Rules For Ian Fowler Ice Oval

The City of Moncton is clarifying rules surrounding the use of the Ian Fowler Ice Oval in the plaza next to the Avenir Centre downtown.

The ice surface is not intended for sports, so hockey, and ringette are absolutely prohibited at any time.

Ice helmets are mandatory for children 12 years old and younger, and are strongly encouraged for all skaters.

One resident posted on the City Facebook page complaining about people playing hockey on the ice surface over the weekend.

The City says for those wishing to play hockey, the Kaboom Rink at Centennial Park is the only outdoor facility where the game is allowed.

It is currently closed, but the City says it will be ready soon and will inform the public when it is.
