The Moncton Fire Department is confirming the cause and origin of a fire at a home on Joyce Avenue Wednesday.
An investigation determined the cause was incendiary – that is to say, the fire was started deliberately.
Just after 7 in the morning, firefighters were called to the building for reports of smoke, and discovered a fire confined to a second floor bathroom.
Firefighters had to force their way inside the room, as it was barricaded from the inside.
The fire was quickly extinguished, and the remains of a woman were found inside the bathroom.
Fire and smoke damage was contained to the second floor unit.
