Vitalité Will Remove Energy and Soft Drinks From Their Properties By Year’s End

In an effort to increase the healthiness of food and drinks available at their properties, Vitalité Health network will no longer serve sugary drinks like pop, and energy drinks by the end of December.

Director of Professional Services Linda Sunderland says a 350 millilitre soft drink has about eight teaspoons of sugar in it.

She adds sugar consumption leads to a whole range of health problems.

The drinks will be replaced by water, milk, and 100 per cent pure fruit juices.

Spokesperson Thomas Lizotte acknowledges fruit juices do contain sugar, if less than soft drinks, but says juices have nutritional value through vitamins, minerals and fibre.

He adds the beverages will also be served in smaller sizes, which will reduce the sugar consumed.

Lizotte says this applies to patient menus, as well as vending machines.
