Remembrance Day Ceremonies In Moncton

A large gathering at the Moncton Coliseum today, as thousands took a moment to honour those who have died for our freedom.

The crowds began arriving just before 9:45am Sunday morning wearing poppies, in anticipation of this year’s Remembrance Day ceremonies.

They came as a thank you to those who have fought to keep us free…

Today’s ceremonies also marked 100 years since the signing of the Armistice that ended the first world war.

Many wreaths were laid, by veterans, members of the public, and dignitiaries including Moncton Mayor Dawn Arnold, Moncton Riverview and Dieppe MP Ginette Petitipas Taylor.

The last post was played, and two minutes of silence were observed.

Services were also held at Sunny Brae Legion, where under a sunny sky and a bitter wind, the annual Remembrance Day parade made its way from the Legion to the Cenotaph today.

Current and former military personnel and Legion members marched with cadets, first responders, service groups, boy scouts and girl guides.

Eleven First World War veterans were honoured along with 11 veterans from the Second World War and soldiers who served in Afghanistan.

Although the turnout was a bit smaller this year, several hundred souls did brave the cold for the service.

Also, at an informal service at Victoria Park, several hundred people of all ages attended in honour of veterans, current military members, and those who work as first responders.

Close attention was paid as ‘In Flanders Fields’ by John McCrae was read. Three wreaths were laid before a release of 21 doves to mark the end of the ceremony.
