Thousands of pipers and drummers in ten countries plan to observe the 100th Anniversary of the Armistice that lead to the end of World War One.
Sergeant for the New Brunswick RCMP Pipes and Drums Jennifer Maillet says in Moncton, they will gather on Sunday morning at the Riverfront Park RCMP memorial for three fallen officers.
“June 4th, 2014 wasn’t technically a war, but it was like a war on Moncton and they had those same traits and same values that these men who sacrificed their lives had in those days. We felt it was an appropriate place,” Maillet says.
Over 2500 pipers and drummers in the ten countries will play starting at 6am tomorrow morning.
“The Armistice was signed at 6 o’clock, it came into effect at 11am, so that’s why we celebrate the actual Remembrance Day service at 11am. Definitely it is important for this year because it is the 100th anniversary,” Maillet says.
She says as a member of the RCMP Pipes and Drums band, it is a very unique experience, “To take part in something in ten different countries, and pipers all over the world, people who I have never met who share this common interest, and paying tributes to these heroes. I never want to forget what we have here in Canada.”
