An inmate serving a 60-day sentence at the Shediac Jail has died and RCMP are calling it a homicide.
Mounties were called to the jail October 26th after an inmate had reportedly been badly hurt in an assault.
He was taken to hospital in critical condition.
The inmate was 33-year-old Michael Adam Matchett of Miramichi.
Police say he died from his injuries on Saturday, November 3.
Correctional officials say Matchett had been serving time for several offences and was scheduled to be released on November 10th.
