Nature Advocacy Group Wanted To Hear More About Environment In Throne Speech

The Nature Conservancy of Canada is hoping the provincial government talks about environmental issues during this session of the legislature.

NCC’s Andrew Holland says the throne speech was pretty vague on details regarding the environment and feels more land needs to be protected.

Holland says ” New Brunswick is second-last in the country when it comes to having a target for protected areas because it has only protected 4.6 percent of its landmass”.

The province should also be looking at the historic flooding in the spring and how to prevent it from happening again

” Using New Brunswick’s own natural defences, they didn’t even talk about it, they overlooked the obvious, using our natural defences our wetlands and our forests to help mitigate the impact of our changing climate”, stated Holland.

Holland says the only party that seemed to make the environment a central issue in the recent election campaign was the Green party who said they would move to have 12 percent protected lands in the province.
