Province Awaits Report On Refinery Explosion

New Brunswick’s Department of Environment is awaiting a report from Irving Oil about Monday’s explosion and fire at their Saint John refinery.

In an emailed statement to our newsroom, department spokesperson Anthony Doiron said Irving Oil has five days to submit a detailed report as part of their approval to operate.

“After we review the detailed report from the company, we will be able to determine next steps,” Doiron said.

Doiron did not elaborate on what those next steps could be.

Saint John councillors have agreed to send a letter to Irving Oil and the Department of Public Safety calling for a “comprehensive after-event review” of Monday’s incident.
