While people were changing clocks this weekend for Daylight Savings Time, fire departments are hoping homeowners will check fire alarms and carbon monoxide detectors as well.
Captain Robert Berube, a Fire Prevention Officer with the Dieppe Fire Department says remembering to change the batteries at the time change is wise, and you should also be testing them monthly.
“Carbon monoxide is the ‘silent killer’ so you won’t smell it, taste it, or see it,” says Berube.
He adds that’s why carbon monoxide detectors are so vital, because unlike fires, you are unable to see if carbon monoxide is filling up your home.
Berube states there should be a fire alarm and carbon monoxide detector on each floor, and in each sleeping quarters.
