An Ontario man has learned the hard way that smuggling illegal cigarettes into the province is not a very good idea.
In Edmundston Provincial Court on Tuesday, 27-year-old Aniss Samer pleaded guilty to charges in connection with the seizure of 113,000 illegal cigarettes.
It happened during a vehicle stop on November 3, 2017 RCMP on the Trans Canada Highway at Saint-Jacques.
He was fined $1.50 per smoke for a total fine of just under $170,000.
