Rehearsals for Mary Poppins are in full swing.
The musical will be performed at the Capitol Theatre from February 24th until March 4th.
Director Marshall Button says, “Rehearsals are more than full, they are overflowing it seems. We have the luxury of having a couple of different pianos and three or different spaces, so at any given time, we are owrking on different aspects of the show.”
Rehearsals are ongoing eight hours a day, six says a week right now for the performers…
“We have 40 cast members, but that doesn’t include the orchestra, which is around 15 musicians. With all of the various desgners, and stage managers, and props mankers and of course the crews, makeup people and haridressers, we’ are looking at a total of around 80 people involved in the show,” Marshall says.
Behind the scenes, there is set construction, and costume design, and music rehearsals..
“The great thing about a musical of course, is it combines so many art forms. We have people working on themes, whether it be acting, music and this is the biggest dance show we have ever done with lots of choreography.”
