It will be a busy couple of months, as committee members work towards a bid for the Tim Horton’s Brier in March of 2020.
Curl Moncton and the City of Moncton must give official notice to Curling Canada by April 10th that they are interested and the bid itself must be in by June.
President of Curl Moncton Jacques Robichaud says they will make a few changes as compared to when they bid for the 2019 Brier.
“We set up a meeting with Curling Canada in Ottawa. We met with them in December. We were informed that we had a very good bid, and they were happy with the bid, but there’s a few things that were lacking in it. We will correct those and go back with a stronger big for 2020,” Robichaud says.
The economic benefit of this event to the city is anywhere from $12 to $15 million dollars.
“For curling and the curling community, it gives the sport a lot of exposure. It always brings new people to the sport. The event, once it comes to town, leaves a legacy too. We’ll have additional resources to do some of the things we want to do in curling,” Robichaud adds.
A key part of a winning bid is the renewed commitment of the presale program. Presale ticket packages will once again be available for a cost of $50 – allowing fans access to the best full event packages when and if Moncton is selected as the host in 2020. Pre-event packages are available for sale now, and can be purchased online at tickets.moncton.ca, in person at the Moncton Coliseum Box Office (377 Killam Drive) or by phone at 1-888-720-5600.
