There’s concern over continuing staff shortages at nursing homes in the province that might be getting worse. That’s what the New Brunswick Nursing Homes Association wants to find out.
Executive-Director Jodi Hall admits there are longstanding misconceptions about working in nursing homes that have to be overcome such as nursing homes being where you end your medical career rather than start it.
Hall says there have always been staff shortages at nursing homes in rural areas but now they`re being felt in the larger urban centres.
Hall says if staff shortages at nursing homes get worse, some sort of action plan to alleviate them will have to be implemented. Staff shortages at nursing homes prevent seniors from being transferred from hospitals which are not ideal settings to be in unless you`re sick.
