The prospect of a new school will be discussed at a special Parent School Support Committee meeting tonight at Hillcrest school.

The Anglophone East School District will soon be applying to the province for a new school to replace Bessborough, and the option is there to close Hillcrest, and have students incorporated into a new West end school.

Spokesperson for the PSSC Shawn Foster says they’ll discuss the pros and cons with the parents. “They’ve invited us to be onboard and be part of the discussions. We’ll have a conversation around this new school and what opportunities it has for Hillcrest We’ll discuss what our options are going forward, and we’ll have time for questions.”

Foster says, they need to consider what is best for the students and the community, “It’s important to us that it this new school is in the community and has that same community feel. We’re still at the preliminary stages, and we will see how these discussions go and then try and make the best decisions.”

Members of the PSSC, as well as the members of the Anglophone East District Education Council Harry Doyle and Norval MacConnell, as well as the Acting VP for Hillcrest School Todd Smith, will all be at tonight’s meeting.

It gets underway at 6:30 at Hillcrest, and parents are welcome.
