Business has been booming for the Kini Wellness Centre, since it opened in Moncton last month.
It is home to the first floatation spa in New Brunswick.
Owner Cindy O’Donnell says clients enter a floating pod, and with the lid closed, lights out, and complete silence, they can be fully relaxed and that helps them to clear their mind and it can also help people to overcome some of their fears as well, You can overcome certain things that might be going on in your life, like claustrophobia. We actually had one woman who was afraid of elevators and was even afraid of taking stairs because of the small hallways. After 15 minutes, she said she closed the cover and didn’t feel claustrophobic at all. We’ve also had people overcome their fear of drowning.”
The pods are about 9 feet long, and about 5 and a half feet wide, “For someone who is claustrophobic, even with the cover closed, there is quite a bit of room. The cover is also hydraulic, it is very easy to open, if ever you wanted to raise it,” O’Donnell adds.
O’Donnell says floating therapy has been around for many years, but has never been offered in New Brunswick before.
