The provincial government is giving tens of thousands of dollars to the Peter McKee Community Food Centre for their Teaching Kitchen.
Premier Brian Gallant announced a lump sum payment of $40,000 towards the capital campaign to build the $300,000 kitchen.
He says they really understand the saying “if you give a person a fish, they’ll eat for a day, if you teach a person to fish, they’ll eat for a lifetime.”
“And it’s really great to see what they’re doing here, and they’re asking people to come in, and they get good food, good service of course,” says Gallant. “But they’re also trying to teach people some of the life skills that will help them lead healthier, and happier lives.”
The new kitchen will offer community based cooking programs, that will teach people how to cook healthy meals from scratch.
