It has been a big year for a local non-profit organization that helps fire victims, the elderly and the homeless.
Founder of Big Hearts, Small City Jason Surette says one of the biggest things that happened was becoming a registered charitable organization.
From there, Surette says they set out to help as many people as they could, “We’ve helped over 70 fire victims in 2016, all over New Brunswick. We serve fire victims in Moncton, Fredericton and Miramichi. We’ve also helped over 17 families with their NB Power bills so they could get their power restored and wouldn’t end up on the street.
He says they also started up a bed donation program, “People in poverty and fire victims, are qualified through an assessment, to determine whether or not we can provide them with a bed, ” Surette adds. He says they are the only organization in Greater Moncton that is doing that right now.
#NB last day you can make a 2016 charitable donation to us is Dec 31. Consider making your donation online today: https://t.co/Up917lxDB5 pic.twitter.com/WzlSG4mWu2
