The shale gas industry in New Brunswick is effectively on hold given that the Gallant government placed a moratorium on fracking when elected more than two years ago.
The Greater Moncton Chamber of Commerce strongly supported shale gas believing it would bring jobs to the province and increase the diversity of revenue.
Chamber CEO Carol O’Reilly says the issue doesn’t seem to be top of mind for the provincial government right now.
“I think focus on what positives we have and you know I’m sure that the government is working on other things to increase the revenue,” she notes.
Earlier this year, the Sussex area business community tried unsuccessfully to convince the Gallant government to lift the moratorium and allow Corridor Resources to continue its natural gas operations.
