The extreme cold made fighting a fire quite the challenge for the Dieppe Firefighters yesterday.
Division Chief Marc Cormier says around 4:15 they were called for a structure fire on Gauvin Road.
When the 18 firefighters arrived, they found a fully engulfed attic fire.
Cormier says breathing apparatuses began to freeze and wouldn’t operate properly in the cold.
He says the Moncton Fire Department loaned them four firefighters due to the equipment freezing up.
Cormier reports the firefighters eventually gained the upper hand, and extinguished the fire before it could spread to other areas of the building.
Codiac Transpo also sent a bus to provide a heated rehab area – one firefighter received a minor injury and was treated on scene by Ambulance New Brunswick.
Cormier adds this incident shows when several agencies come together, in conditions such as what they experienced yesterday evening, great things can happen.
Cormier says the investigation into the fire will begin today and it is not deemed suspicious at this time.
