Longtime Dieppe Mayor And MLA Dies

A longtime Dieppe municipal and provincial politician has died.

William “Bill” Malenfant has passed away at the age of 87.

His municipal career began in 1969 as a councillor before being elected mayor in 1971.

Throughout the 1970s, 80s and 90s, he was re-elected mayor seven more times.

From 1974 to 1982, he served as a Liberal MLA representing the former riding of Memramcook.

During his life, Malenfant was heavily involved in the community as a volunteer firefighter and a member of numerous service groups and organizations.

Mayor Yvon Lapierre says numerous projects came to light during Malenfant’s political career.

The City of Dieppe has set up a book of condolences for signing at city hall during business hours.
