Residents of the tri-communities are being urged to provide their feedback on affordable housing in the region by December 31st.
The City of Moncton has partnered with the City of Dieppe on a housing needs assessment study which will be done by SHS Consulting.
Moncton community development officer Kayla Breelove Carter says all types of housing including community agencies trying to prevent homelessness are being included.
“We’ve already sent out some surveys to our stakeholders, so different agencies that provide housing, private landlords, support service agencies, so on and so forth,” says Breelove Carter. “So right now we’re in sort of the stage of getting that data.”
Breelove Carter says “so far so it’s very encouraging to see the survey numbers go up in terms of what’s been submitted but at the same time we are on a timeline,” says Breelove Carter.
She says the study will be a useful tool when it comes to accessing various kinds of funding.
“We can be in a better position when we are advocating on behalf of our City towards provincial funding, federal funding,” says Breelove Carter. “And supporting the agencies that exist in our community that are already doing that hard work to break down the barriers to housing.”
Breelove Carter says the data will be compiled following the year-end deadline and the study should be ready by late spring.
