Mary Beth Fenton of BMO says shoppers can avoid the temptation of impulse spending by planning purchases in advance.
Fenton suggests making a list and setting a dollar amount for each person on your list.
She also suggests putting a regular amount in a holiday savings account at the beginning of the year.
Fenton adds you should also include money for travel and entertainment, not just gifts.
