Executive Director for Food Depot Alimentaire Chantal Senecal says they always make sure there are enough turkeys to go around, “We ask all of the food banks in the Southeast region to give us the number that they will need for their food boxes. We have everyone covered for turkeys.”
She says the number needed this year is up from last year, which comes as no surprise, “There’s more and more people coming into the city, I think that would cause an increase. There’s an increase in all around food bank use right now.”
Founder Sue Stultz says it’s amazing how the community comes together to ensure that everyone in Southeastern New Brunswick has a turkey on the table at Christmas time.
Senecal says if they surpass their goal, as they often do, not to worry, those extra turkeys will be put to good use, “We’ll supply turkeys to the food banks for the rest of the winter months. I know that from January to April things are quite slow when its comes to donations, and it’s great to send donations out to soup kitchens in the area.”
This years turkey drive runs until December 9th, and the drop off location is at the St. George Street firehall.
Sue Stultz, “When you smell a turkey cooking on Christmas, know that you have helped another family to have a turkey on their table as well”
