The Opposition Conservatives have denounced the provincial government’s contingency fund nothing more than a slush fund.
Auditor-General Kim MacPherson has steered clear of that but didn’t like the way it was being accounted for by the number crunchers. She says it obscured the true provincial deficit and their differences have been resolved.
The contingency reserves amounted to $250 million dollars over two years which MacPherson says didn’t represent any actual new funding but was there if needed and added to the budget deficit nonetheless.
