Red Scarf Campaign In Downtown Moncton Today

If you happen to see a red scarf tied to a lamppost or a bench in downtown Moncton today, feel free to take it to help recognize World AIDS Day.

The Red Scarf Campaign was launched last year as a symbolic representation of the red ribbon used to represent those lost and still affected by HIV/AIDS.

AIDS Moncton executive director Debby Warren says the scarves have all been generously donated by the community.

“We have volunteers and supporters who either have gotten fabric and cut them out for us and we’ve even had some groups that have knitted us some nice, warm red scarves,” she notes.

Warren says the campaign received a good response last year but many people thought the scarves were for the disadvantaged and didn’t realize they were for AIDS awareness.

The New Brunswick legislature has been lit up in red this week in recognition of National AIDS Awareness Week.
