A Memramcook man recently travelled to Germany to compete with Team Canada in the STIHL Timbersports World Championships.
Those who compete in Timbersports are sometimes referred to as lumberjacks but Marcel Dupuis says they are all athletes who train very hard to compete.
“I compete all year long to try to make Team Canada, there’s a series in the Maritimes, there’s a series in Canada, and there’s a Canadian Championship, and from the results they decide who’s on Team Canada, and from there you go to World Championships which is the last competition in the year,” says Dupuis.
He and his team brought home the silver medal from the world championships.
“There’s 24 different countries at the World Championships, and you do four events, there’s just four members on the team,” says Dupuis. “There’s a Stock Saw event, an Underhand Chop, Single Buck, and then a Standing Block Chop, whoever finishes their task first wins and moves on.”
When not competing, Marcel works full time as a Moncton firefighter.
