Students Learn Tools To Cope With Mental Health Issues

More and more students are suffering from mental health issues, and the Anglophone East school district says it’s important that we educate them and give them the tools needed to cope.

That was the purpose of a youth mental health summit held today in Moncton. It was hosted by the school district and the Canadian Mental Health Association.

About 120 students from eight schools across the region attended the Summit, held at the Wesleya Celebration Centre.

Community Schools Coordinator Heather Stordy says they learned through workshops and discussions, “To introduce students to positive mental health strategies and then they’ll come up with a social action or a project that they can take back to the respective schools and further educate the larger population of the school and get students involved. The projects will all be presented at the Mental Health Symposium to be held in May next year.”

This is the second annual Youth Mental Health Summit.
